when you just want to crawl under the covers? well today is one of those days! after a busy, but fun weekend, with nice warm weather, it is now FREEZING cold here! my feet feel like ice cubes, and I feel chilled to the bone! Riley the Dog and I bundled up on the couch for a little while this afternoon (shhh...don't let the boss know) and finally got a bit of heat going. the weather here really is stinky and needs to warm up soon. aside from the cold temperatures, it has been hard to get motivated. i need to clean, i need to do laundry, i need to sort and organize my stuff.
do you ever find yourself thinking that you just have too much? I have been doing that lately. we do have way too much. while my DH was off work for 5 weeks, we got a dumpster and he cleaned out the garage and a little of the basement. we have been taking items out of the house and putting them in storage so that we can have a yard sale. i know, i know, the cost of the storage is probably going to end up more than the proceeds from the sale, however there is a lot---and I mean a lot! our yard sales have become "famous" of sorts in the craft communities, where a lot of neighbors and some lovely "older" ladies shop till they drop and get great bargains on lots of craft items. I love doing the sale, sitting out there and meeting the people and practically giving away the farm! (If my DH is manning the sale, he has offered to give people bags and just go shopping through the house!)
we have begun to make some goals for us to accomplish this summer, in the home improvement arena. we hope to :
- move our kitchen side door to the back of the home
- add more kitchen cabinets along the wall that had the original door
- purchase a new range/oven
- tile the sink area of the master bath as well as the floor (we have samples of tiles, paint, flooring and are ready to go on this--we have saved and obtained a new sink, fixtures, and lighting)
- finally build the deck we have talked about for 10 years
- re-do the powder room
- empty the basement so that we can use our exercise equipment without feeling boxed in!
- paint the living room and dining rooms
- organize the art studio so that we can actually work in it instead of on the dining room table or in my office
- minimalize and get rid of clutter once and for all!
Wish us luck, with a written plan, we have begun to tackle all these things, and have begun pricing items and purchasing gift cards to the stores where we are going to get some of the items, kind of using the gift cards as a savings plan...we buy them, save them and then purchase when we have the cash saved.
forgot the most important part of this summer plan...we are not going into debt to do it! no credit cards!
